In case you missed out on the Joe Hisaishi Symphonic Orchestra with music from the Ghibli films, you'll be happy to hear another musical Ghibli production will be coming to the West End next year!

It's a stage adaptation of Spirited Away (my favourite Ghibli movie), at the London Coliseum. It will premiere on the 30th of April 2024 and run for 12 weeks.

If you've never seen Spirited Away, check it out on Netflix. It's a beautiful animated film, in fact it's the first non-english animated film to have won an Oscar.

The story is about a girl, Chihiro, who accidentally enters a magical spirit world and tries to find her way back and save her parents who had been transformed in to pigs for eating the spirit's food.

The film has many wondrous locations and creatures. It reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, but where I always thought Alice's Wonderland was a bit scary and annoying, Chihiro's Spirit Bath House is cozy and welcoming in comparison.

Important note for parents, copied from the FAQ:

Age guidance is 7+. This production is not suitable for children under 6 years. Children 4 and under (including babes in arms) will not be admitted into the auditorium.

The production is highly visual, with large scale puppets, live music and stunning set and costume design. However, some elements of the story could be scary for very young children. It also features live music and sound effects that will be loud at times.
