Life Of A London Tech Mum
Managing work life balance in London with young kids and a big dream
Welcome to “London Tech Mum”, an attempt to summarise my main interests and life goals at thirty-something: How to get ahead in my career and work towards a brighter future for my family. A future where our 2 boys can grow up in London, a place we love for its cultural diversity and entertainment. A place that instantly felt like home.
The 5 Year Goal: a Bigger House in East London
The goal is simple, but challenging. Is it possible to make more money to afford that dream home and free up more time before the boys fly the nest? Maybe we’ll discover a nice diverse suburb with more affordable houses and a decent commute. Or maybe we’ll just have to compromise and adapt in other ways.
No doubt there are trade offs when staying in London and these next 5 years especially will be crucial, so I will be sharing my progress and learnings. Maybe it is helpful to others in a similar situation, but most of all it’s for myself. I need to stay focussed and hold myself accountable.
Life happens when you’re busy making other plans, but wherever life may take us, I want to look back and know I have put my best foot forward every step of the way.
What you can expect from the London Tech Mum Blog
I’ll be checking in on the 5 year goal – the “main quest” (sorry I’m a gamer), to make sure I’m keeping on track. I’ll also write about anything that is relevant to my day-to-day, so for example productivity hacks and fun things to do in London, but also things like what the journey to motherhood has been like, what is the process of buying a house in London, etc.
Me and most of my friends didn’t start these things until our mid thirties and I feel like the lack of exposure to these kind of experiences also made it harder to envision and relate to in return. If you are like me, I’ll happily tell you what I wish I had been told.
Thanks for reading, I hope you’ll check back in every now and then. If you’re on a similar path, I’d love to hear from you. Or if you’re not quite in a similar stage of life but curious, you’re just as welcome to just lurk. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see covered in the blog. Let’s do this!
